Whether you want to be in front or a supporter from the audience, there are many opportunities to be involved in the performing arts.
Performer - Look up local companies to audition for a musical, concert, show, opera or event. You can find a lot of these opportunities through social media, flyers, word of mouth/connections, and at the venue. While most people associate performances with a full production of a musical or opera, this can also include dance, theater, poetry, improv and stand up comedy, or a smaller scale concert.
Behind the Scenes - While the performers are what the audience see, the people behind the scenes are what produce and put the performance together. There are many types of positions, including director, technical crew, producer, marketing, sound, scenic, costume and makeup.
Educator - Thankfully, you can have many roles in the arts, and a lot of performers want to be educators to continue to invest in the future of the arts by teaching the next generation. An educator can give a presentation or workshop, teach lessons, be a mentor, establish a program, and be an advocate.
Spectator - For those who want to truly just support the arts, the spectator is the most important part because you can’t have a show without the audience. The audience is also important because it can help shape the future of the performance industry and what companies can do to improve.
